History of the ACFS

The ACFS has a proud record. It was established in 1951 when the People's Republic of China was still in its formative years. The ACFS was among the first organisations worldwide to acknowledge New China. We have been key players in promoting interest in China, maintaining friendly relations between the Australian people and the people of China and fostering Australia's diplomatic recognition of China in 1972.

From the 1950's onwards, the ACFS has sponsored delegations of industrial, business, cultural and women's groups to China, as well as enabling many educational exchanges.

In 1972, a National Council was formed for the ACFS. When this was reorganised in 2006, New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory did not become members. The member states/territories are Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia.
